PFO’s, do they have a role in cryptogenic stroke?

Learning Objectives:
1. Careful workup of patients with cryptogenic stroke is important
2. PFO closure has well demonstrated benefit in carefully selected patients

Abstract:
Young patients with cryptogenic stroke remain at elevated risk of future stroke. Those with a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) may benefit from percutaneous PFO closure. Recent large RCTs have proven benefit in carefully selected patients.
