Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) and Atrial Fibrillation

Course Details

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) often coexist, sharing common risk factors and contributing to worse clinical outcomes, including increased mortality, heart failure hospitalizations, and an increased risk of stroke.

Revisit the impact and management of this clinical scenario in this RACGP CPD module with an allocated 0.5 hours of Education Activities (EA) and 1 hour of Reflective Practice (RP) under the RACGP 2023-25 CPD program.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the pathophysiology of HFpEF and the impact of associated Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
  2. Review medical management of patients with HFpEF and AF
  3. Discuss the clinical benefit of catheter ablation on patients with AF and HFpEF

This activity is presented by Dr David Chieng, a Cardiac Electrophysiologist consulting at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne.

This presentation was recorded in January 2025.
