Degenerative Spine Disease in the Aging Population

Explore the multifaceted challenges and management strategies of degenerative spine disease prevalent among the aging population.

This is a RACGP CPD module with an allocated 0.5 hour of Education Activities (EA), 5 hours of Measuring Outcomes (MO), and 1 hour of Reflective Practice (RP) under the RACGP 2023-25 CPD program.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the incidence and prevalence of common degenerative spinal conditions seen in general practice.
  2. Review the clinical physical and neurovascular signs and assessment of these conditions.
  3. Review the diagnostic modalities used to identify abnormalities in these challenging patients.
  4. Review clinical guidelines for appropriate referral for surgical consideration.

This activity is presented by Associate Professor Chris Daly, a Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon at the Gold Coast Private Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. A/Prof Daly has expertise in both minimally invasive and complex spine surgeries.
