Adenomyosis: An under recognised cause of painful heavy periods

Studies suggest that 1 in 5 women are estimated to have adenomyosis, a gynaecological condition that causes the lining of the uterus to grow into the uterine muscles and can often cause heavy and painful menstrual bleeding. Revisit the diagnostic tools and treatment options for this condition with Dr Eisen Liang.

This is a RACGP CPD module with an allocated 0.5 hours of Educational Activities (EA) and 1 hour of Reflective Practice (RP) under the RACGP 2023-25 CPD program.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Review the pathophysiology, incidence and prevalence of adenomyosis
  2. Discuss diagnostic tools that increase the accurate detection of adenomyosis
  3. Discuss the treatment options available for women with adenomyosis
