Cervical Myelopathies and Radiculopathies: What and when are the surgical options?

Course Details

Cervical Myelopathy and associated radiculopathy occur in approximately 1-2% of the population and can be associated with a significant impact on the quality of life of affected individuals, requiring skillful assessment to separate urgent from non-urgent clinical presentations.

This is a RACGP CPD module with an allocated 1 hour of Education Activities (EA), 5 hours of Measuring Outcomes (MO), and 1 hour of Reflective Practice (RP) under the RACGP 2023-25 CPD program.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the incidence and prevalence of cervical myelopathy and radiculopathy
  2. Review the pathophysiology of the conditions associated with cervical myelopathy
  3. Review clinical assessment and diagnostic tools appropriate for patients
  4. Discuss treatment options for those who meet referral criteria

This activity is presented by Associate Professor Wayne Ng,  a Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon at the Gold Coast Private Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital. A/Prof Ng’s areas of focus span the brain, spine, and peripheral nerve decompression.
